Newsjacking the Weather

July 14, 2013 By Lyndon Antcliff

When there is a specific news story in the media, it may be an opportunity to “Newsjack” it and surf the conversation. People love to link and create social signals around what people are thinking and talking about.

Right now in the UK it is unusually hot, and us Brits love nothing better to talk (moan) about the weather. When we get over our shock and surprise we really quite enjoy it, leaving the media stuck with reprinting the same stories about increased ice cream sales, dogs getting hot in cars and everyone heading to the beach.

With lots of stats being created about the weather it’s probably a good time to look at your niche and see if you can squeeze out a “hot weather” story and newsjack it.

A quick search on Google for “hot weather infographics“. quickly pulls up a ton of data you can reuse.
