Andy Beals runs a blog called Marketing Pilgrim. It’s a classy, informative blog on the world of online marketing.

In October he posted about how it’s better to do good things than bad.


He wrote,

By building a website that?s useful and usable. Give people something they want and give it to them for free. Maybe it?s information or some web tool that makes someone?s life easier. Give away something entertaining.

Type it up, print it out and staple it to the inside of your eyelids before you go to sleep.

Time and time again I see people of success give stuff away with no instant benefit to themselves.

As I look at the people in my blogroll I see some very generous people. Some may argue that they may not have been that generous before they made it but I disagree. You cannot make a name for yourself in this industry if you copy, steal and rip people off. It is soon known about and stamped upon.

It’s one of the few places the good guy can finish on top.
