One of the reasons Nelson defeated the French at the Battle of Trafalgar was the British ships had copper bottomed hulls. The reason? Copper is toxic and no living thing can grow on it, so all the barnacles and limpets and seaweed couldn’t grow on the hull and slow it down. Thus the British ships were faster than the French, who were weighed down by all sort of little creatures hanging on to them.
What the hell has this to do with anything? Well, it was something I thought about as I had a big clear out of “friends” from my social media accounts. I decided that not all “friends” within my social media accounts were worth the trouble and were causing my own social media activities to slow down.
No more. Continue reading “Social Media Barnacles Will Slow You Down”
In the 24th of December issue of Time Magazine, flick to the back and check out the article called, The Power of 10. Jump to number 8 and you will see a quote from one of my blog posts, reasons why you should not stop posting top ten lists
It’s very tricky trying to explain to friends and family what I actually do. Success is really only judged on the car you drive and the size of the house you live in. Not whether or not you got a clients website to the front page of digg for the umpteenth time. Now I can wave something under their noses they understand.
Maybe I should start paying more attention to journalists.
Thanks to James Poniewozik for including me in the article.
In the past I removed the “nofollow” tag on my comments. This was to encourage comments and to reward regular commenters with a link. The problem is that I don’t have time to go check out the website in the comment link and as Google will penalise if I link to a bad neighbourhood I have decided to remove the “dofollow” from comments. Some people have mentioned how come I’m not blogging. A number of reasons, the main one being a family tradegy unfolding which makes everything tinged with sadness. Without going into details as I don’t feel this is the right place, my ability to work has been severly hampered by personal issues. Also, I have become insanely busy with writing Linkbait for clients.
But hey, life goes on, bills have to be paid, social sites need to be gamed, linkbait and blog posts have to be written. In fact I have been getting a little heat from social sites because of my actions. Both digg and Propellor have banned this blog, I dunno, was it something I said, lol. I don’t really mind as it doesn’t effect my bottom line, and that’s what it’s all about.
So, sorry to bother you with my issues, but readers deserve a bit of explanation. I am sure I will be back on track bringing whatever it is I bring to the space.
